To celebrate Valentine's Day this year, we are posting about our new favorite moisturizer. Dear Avène Extremely Rich Compensating Cream, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. It not only provides hydration for dry, sensitive skin, it also has antioxidant benefits, boosts hydration and revitalizes dull skin.
The cream comes packaged in a standard jar containing 50 ml. I actually really like the packaging. The jar makes it easy to get out every last bit of goodness out of it, unlike a tube that I burn at least 50 calories trying to squeeze out all the moisturizer and eventually cut the top off. Included in the packaging is a small spatula, so you don’t have to dip your fingers in the jar.
Like most Avène moisturizers, this one comes in the Rich Compensating Cream which is intended for dry skin, and the Extremely Rich Compensating Cream which is targeted at very dry and sensitive skin. I decided to get this second version based on the texture, and ingredient list. The Extremely Rich one contains shea butter, Avène thermal water, Lipidic Complex Biocymentine (Ceramides, Plant Sterols and Fatty Acids) to help restore skin's barrier and prevent moisture loss, and Patented Pre-Tocopheryl, a photostable form of Vitamin E that provides powerful anti-oxidant protection against free radicals. The moisturizer has a very thick consistency, however is not greasy and I am able to apply make-up over it without smudges or residue. When I wake in the mornings, my skin feels soft (think baby's bottom soft), and supple to the touch. All Avène products are non-comedogenic (does not clog pores), gluten free, and the fragrances are all plant based.
